Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive medical system over 5,000 years old that aims to treat the entire person, not only individual symptoms, in order to promote, restore and maintain overall health, healing, and balance.  TCM employs the elements of nature to explain how all bodily functions interrelate and this holistic approach integrates many modalities including acupuncture, acupressure, herbs, moxabustion, cupping, nutrition, massage therapy, and exercise such as Tai Ji and Qi Gong.

Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

Acupuncture
Acupuncture helps to treat and prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s immune and organ systems.  Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body to restore proper functioning of the nervous, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal and endocrine systems.  Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a wide variety of common conditions and is also an excellent form of preventative medicine.
Moxabustion
Moxa is a form of herbal heat therapy.  The process is the application of heat at certain acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of Qi & Blood and warm the channels of the body. Moxa cones and sticks are made of the herb Artemisia Vulgaris which burns with intense heat and are used to stimulate and harmonize digestion, increase blood flow, ease painful joints, and remove stasis and alleviate pain.
Cupping
Cupping is the application of small glass cups that create a vacuum seal over specific areas of the body, mainly the back. It is used to break up stagnation and promote the free flow of Qi & Blood in the channels which helps relieve pain in the low back, shoulders, legs and abdomen. It is also often used in patients who have chronic lung conditions such as asthma, allergies and/or cough, and also for gastro-intestinal disorders.
